Katouche Adventures
Step into Katouche Valley—a lush, emerald enclave tucked into Anguilla’s north-central coast—on a captivating guided hike through 80 acres of tropical forest and into awe-inspiring limestone caves. Your journey begins beneath a towering canopy of native trees and scrub, where local guides weave stories of traditional plant‑uses, from medicinal herbs to household folklore, teaching you the island’s botanical heritage at every step.
Winding through the valley, you’ll descend to Katouche Cave, Anguilla’s oldest known cavern. Inside its cool depths lie fossilised remains of the extinct giant rodent Amblyrhiza inundata, once weighing up to 500 lbs. This cave is a climb-in cave and is only included as part of the Combination Tour.
Next, you enter Cavannaugh Cave. A colossal open cavern, its roof is breached by a monumental fig tree, whose roots trail nearly a quarter‑mile across the cave floor and emerge into sunlight above. Fruit bats flutter overhead, adding to the mystical atmosphere. This cave is a walk-in cave and is included as part of both tour options.
Your adventure concludes with a refreshing stop at secluded Katouche Bay, where you relax under tropical skies with estate‑made punch and fresh fruit—an invigorating finale that blends natural wonder with serene island charm.

Exploring Katouche, Anguilla’s renowned “rainforest,” was an unforgettable adventure! Guided through towering trees and dense foliage, I learned about the diverse plant life’s medicinal uses and ventured into mystical caves, discovering the island’s fascinating history. It was a captivating journey into Anguilla’s natural wonders, leaving me in awe of its biodiversity.

The hike to Cavanaugh cave was amazing. We started with a brief overview of the history of the area and the cave at the trailhead then set off on a fascinating tour guided by Boston, an expert on local plants with a focus on their medicinal values. Boston and Sanji were informative and fun. We saw the cave, lots of bats, lizards, and birds. The trip left our family with a new perspective of the island’s plants and history. And it concluded on the most beautiful beach with refreshments which was perfect. Clemvio met us on the beach after for a lesson in kite making. Truly a perfect outing for the whole family.

A fantastic tour that we would take again in a heartbeat. Our guide, Boston was exceptionally knowledgeable about the different flora of the forest; we loved the hands-on demonstrations including the “soap” leaves. He took great care to ensure we walked carefully along the path and in Cavanaugh Cave which was magnificent in itself. The tiny bats serenaded us and were so enjoyable to watch; guide provided flashlights were a nice touch. The tour ended at a pristine beach where beverages and desserts were served. Clemvio shared much knowledge about the island during our round trip transportation to Katouche Preserve. The entire experience was enriching and professional. It was one of the main highlights of our trip to Anguilla.

An amazing tour. Our guide – Boston – was so knowledgeable and passionate about the caves, the land, the plants and animals in the area. His passion and commitment to the caves and plants and made this tour a highlight for us. His commitment to keeping the tour safe and informative is evident in every action he takes. The “soap” leaves were wonderful and I now know which plants to watch out for. Ending on the beach with a snack and cold beverage was wonderful.
